When South Asians immigrated to the United States in great numbers in the 1970s, they were passionately driven to achieve economic stability and socialize the next generation to retain the traditions of their home culture. During these years, the immigrant community went to great lengths to project an impeccable public image by denying the existence of social problems such as domestic violence, sexual assaults, child abuse, mental illness, racism, and integration conflict. It is not until recently that activist groups have brought these issues out in the open.”
—Shamita Das Dasgupta in Body Evidence: Intimate Violence Against South Asian Women in America

HOW WE HELP

• ASAFSF aided in helping a victim get her Green card within a year! We couldn’t have done this without the expertise and knowledge of our PLAC lawyers—THANK YOU!
• ASAFSF participated in the 2016 “Reframing Our Movement” Domestic Violence Conference and assisted in mobilizing the community and raising awareness.
• 31 Primary victims were served from January to March 2016, 13 Secondary victims were served as well as 4 Victims were partially served.

WHY ASAFSF?

“I want to fly high and feel safe and happy forever," Victim stated this prior to getting her green card. Once she received it she said, "Look! I am flying high and am so happy."
